LAN Specialist

Position Description:
The Local Area Network Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, administering and maintaining the headquarters’ servers and related infrastructure, firewalls and Local Area Networks. The LAN Specialist collaborates with other Information Technology and user personnel throughout the corporate and divisional locations to provide cost efficient, reliable main-stream infrastructure solutions that connect PC workstations, promote LAN-to-LAN connectivity, and support the PCs’ connectivity to other host processors. All activities must result in a high level of user satisfaction.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Administration: Manage user accounts, authorizations, and security privileges in accordance with corporate policies, procedures, and standards; facilitate inter-network connectivity consistent with the corporate enterprise computing objectives; ensure data recoverability through appropriate backup and recovery policies and procedures; monitor the overall health of the server hardware & software, firewall and LAN environments to ensure sufficient capacity, performance and availability; conduct purchase order receipt verification; complete required project reporting; document appropriate physical and non-physical server/LAN attributes; document backup and recovery procedures and compliance (server names, server configurations, organizational structures); formally communicate to IT management the health status of the network environments on a monthly basis, or more regularly, if required.

Development and Implementation: Collaborate with other IT and user personnel to ensure that the selection of network operating systems, file services, print services, and software products conform to corporate computing objectives, standards, and procedures, and to preserve the integrity of the corporate assets; participate in the evaluation of network hardware and software to determine the appropriate hardware and software for the network environment; establish standard workstation configurations; participate in project management activities as they relate to the implementation of the infrastructure. Configure and install server and related infrastructure hardware and software according to standards.

Problem Resolution: Diagnose reported server/network problems, both hardware and/or software, and effect appropriate resolutions with a high level of user satisfaction; work directly with vendor and/or manufacturer technical support personnel to diagnose problems and research resolutions; anticipate problems and resolve before they escalate into an outage; accurately document as required the nature of the problem with supporting details, and actions taken as part of the resolution.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the continued improvement in the utilization the SAP system particularly in the areas of Customer Service, Sales and marketing. The individual will be professionally skilled with the SAP ERP system specifically in the areas of SD: Sales and Distribution (sales orders, available to promise, deliveries, billing, inventory, credit, pricing and rebates, sales and operations planning, and demand transfer to materials management/production planning) and MM: Material Management. Individual will be also responsible for the implementation of e-Commerce, integrating company’s software with SAP
Responsibilities include the development of necessary functionality to allow for business process operations, training and support, evaluation of the effective utilization of the software within the business and the development of strategic plans to improve the business utilization of the software and improvements to the business process.
The individual should be thoroughly familiar with SAP SD and LE (Logistics Execution) configuration, have experience in mapping business processes to SAP, have experience in training the user community in SAP, have experience in trouble shooting the SAP product and providing production support and have strong communications skills. ABAP programming would be a plus but not necessary. Should be able to write detailed program specifications or the ABAP programmer.
