Choose Us

Prior to launching your job search, it is vital to prioritize your career goals and find your motivation. Your problems can sometimes be solved without looking for employment elsewhere. For example, if you are unhappy with your salary, approach your supervisor about a raise before beginning your search. You may be happily surprised that your raise will be approved and the process of updating your resume, interviewing, and relocating can be bypassed. If however, a raise is out of the question or for one reason or another you can not be satisfied in your current position, other criteria must be examined before entering the job market. You should ask yourself several questions before pursuing new opportunities.

If the answers to these questions leave you motivated to find a new position, you can be assured that Professional Careers will do everything possible to find that wonderful new opportunity for you. If however, you find it difficult to answer these questions, a new job may not be what you need. Communicate your concerns with co-workers and management. A solution to your career dilemma may lie within your current situation. Feel free to contact our staff about information on market conditions, about your specialty, and other questions you may have.

Accepting

The decision to accept or decline an offer is often difficult and challenging to say the least. In order to organize your thoughts, several questions about the offer should be presented. The following is a list of questions for the purpose of helping determine your personal needs and goals regarding your new position.

SHOULD I ACCEPT THE OFFER?

  SCALE:
6 or less correct - Do not even think about it
7 or 8 correct - Need more information
9 or 10 correct - ACCEPT IMMEDIATELY! CONGRATULATIONS!
Counter Offer

Be prepared! Your Whole Career is at Stake.

Ask yourself, if you were worth "X" dollars yesterday, why are they suddenly willing now to pay you "Y" dollars today? You weren't expecting a raise. As a test, go in and ask your supervisor when. Consider the fact that your present employer could be merely "buying time" with this raise until he can locate a replacement. Suppose you were given an annual raise of $3,000 as a Counter Offer. When they find a replacement for you in say 60 days, then the actual cost to them is only $500.00. Will more money change everything in your present job? Consider the new opportunity you will be giving up that looked so favorable when you accepted it. The company will probably feel as though they have been "blackmailed" into giving you a raise when you announced your decision to leave. Realize now that you are a marked man. The possibility of promotion is extremely limited for someone who has "given notice". The company is vulnerable, they know it and will not risk giving more responsibility to someone who was previously committed to leave. When economic slow downs occur, you could be one of the first to go. You indicated your intention to do so once before, so it is only natural that your position would probably be eliminated in a slack period. You should know that statistics compiled by the National Employment Association confirm the fact that over 80% of those people who elected to accept a Counter Offer and stayed, are no longer with their company six months later. We strongly urge you to carefully think about all these facts before making a final decision. It is your career, your livelihood. One imprudent mistake at any time could be very costly in terms of your professional growth.
